Increment

An Increment is the sum of all the Product Backlog items completed during a Sprint combined with the value of the increments of all previous Sprints.

Characteristics

  • Must be in a usable condition regardless of whether the Product Owner decides to release it
  • Meets the Scrum Team’s Definition of Done
  • Provides a visible step toward the product goal

Purpose

  • Delivers tangible value to stakeholders and customers
  • Enables frequent inspection and adaptation of the product
  • Supports continuous integration and delivery

Definition of Done (DoD)

  • A shared understanding of what it means for work to be complete
  • Ensures quality and completeness of each Increment
  • Can include coding, testing, documentation, and deployment criteria

Importance

  • Ensures transparency about progress and quality
  • Builds confidence in the product’s readiness for release
