Sprint Planning¶
Sprint Planning is the event that kicks off the Sprint. During this meeting, the Scrum Team collaboratively defines the work to be done in the upcoming Sprint.
Purpose¶
- Define Why the Sprint is valuable via a Sprint Goal (commitment for the Sprint Backlog)
- Select What Product Backlog items can be Done toward the Sprint Goal and Product Goal
- Define How the work will be delivered
Participants¶
- The full Scrum Team: Product Owner, Scrum Master, and Developers
Process — Why / What / How (Scrum Guide 2020)¶
- Why: The Product Owner proposes why the Sprint is valuable and a Sprint Goal is collaboratively defined.
- What: The Developers select Product Backlog items that will move toward the Sprint Goal and Product Goal.
- How: The Developers create a plan in the Sprint Backlog for delivering the selected work.
Timebox¶
- Typically 2 hours per week of Sprint duration (e.g., 4 hours for a 2-week Sprint).
